    . Materials Needed:. ? Joint compound. ? Taping knife. ? Open-mesh sand cloth or medium grit sandpaper. ? Utility blade knife. ? Damp sponge. Instructions. 1. Clean and sand surface. 2. Cut fabric and apply to damaged area, overlapping end of crack by 1 inch or more. 3. Apply joint compound, gently working it into the mesh. Feather edges outward. Let dry. 4. Smooth with damp sponge or sand lightly. Repeat steps 3 and 4 finishing coats.
