forever all my Right title to a Certain Peace of Land Situate in Amherst...Bounded westerly by the Land of Amos Boutel...Containing about Thirty acres

Broadside. 10 5/8 x 7 1/2 inches, docketed on verso. Partially printed document on watermarked paper. Left margin reads: Hillsborough Jan 18, 1788 - Benj. Davis appeared & owned this Deed & that it is his free act - (signed) Moses Nichols - Jpeace.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Light toning, edgewear - creases from old folds - several small pinholes (no loss of text). A transitional document, making good use of old stock in the then relatively new United States. All parties are notable as having served during the Revolutionary War. Joseph Boutell and Benjamin Davis were among the Amherst soldiers in Captain Crosby's company who saw action at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Nahum Baldwin and Dr. Moses Nicholls were selected members on the committee chosen in December 1774,
"to approve of the results of the Grand Congress, and strictly adhere to them,"
both serving the Continental Army in various capacities.

Know all Men by these Presents that I Aaron Boutell of Amherst in the County of Hillsborough & State of New Hampshire yeoman for & in Consideration of the Sum of One Thousand Pounds to me in hand before the Delivery here of well & truly paid by Thomas Boutell of Amherst - aforesaid Yeoman....Hillsborough March 25th, 1780 the - within Named Aaron Boutell personally appeared & acknowledged the within written Instrument to be his Voluntary act & Deed - Before Nahum Baldwin - Received & Recorded 12 July 1782 - A true Copy of the Record -

Acceptable condition overall.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Aaron Boutell of Amherst served in the Continental Army under Capt. William Barron. "Moses Nichols from Reading, Mass., settled here as early as 1761, and remained in practice until his death, in May 1790. he was an active and influential citizen, and filled many important civil and military offices. At the head of his regiment, he commenced the attack upon the Hessians at Bennington, in 1777. He also commanded a regiment at West Point at the time of Arnold's treason, in 1780." -
