Description
Offered is this charming 3-piece silverplate domed butter dish made in the late 1800s by James Tufts. The butter dish has a tall handle and chased lid featuring flowers and foliage.
This butter dish is comprised of a footed bowl and a round insert with a hole in the middle, in addition to the domed lid.
We understand the pierced insert allows for ice to be stored below the butter to keep it cool, and allows for drainage of whey. The tall lid is topped by an elegant finial.
The round bowl has a decorated design around the outside. It also has extended hooks to hold a master knife. (We will include a butter knife with the set.)
The four feet also feature a decorative design, as does the handle for carrying the butter dish from the sideboard to the table.
The butter dish stands 11 inches high (28 cm) from the tabletop to the top of the handle. The diameter of the footed bowl is 5.5 inches (14.5 cm).
Very good used condition.
